To celebrate their 35th birthday, I had the pleasure of working with the team at the Austrian newspaper Der Standard, and to create a custom typeface and a custom lettering for the title of their front page.
-
Der Standard is one of the two most widely read quality newspapers in Austria. Founded in 1988 with the aim of becoming a New York Times for Austria, and its production surpasses 50,000 copies per day.
For their 35th anniversary, I was commissioned to create a bespoke cover that would allow a large amount of questions to be displayed and the main title to be highlighted in a dynamic way. -
To keep the focus on the title, we chose a centred composition for the title and used a lettering style with flourishes to create a celebratory feel. The custom typeface I designed allowed me to quickly create the background questions that evoke most of the topics covered in the newspaper article.
